POLITICAL.
There were between forty and fifty present (including a number of ladies) at Mr R. M. Gatenby's first committee meeting in Duigan's Hall last evening, when Mr Alf. Reynolds was appointed chairman and Mr Moore secretary. Mr Gatenby briefly outlined the main planks of his political platform, his remarks being well received, after which preliminary arrangements were made in the matter of organisation, and for the holding of various meetings in and around the. district, the first of which is to be held at Castlecliff next week. The committee then adjourned for a fortnight, and in the meantime any information required will be given by Mr Reynolds at his business premises. Members of committee will be duly notified by advertisement and circular as to the date of the next meeting. It will be noticed that a meeting of the Castlecliff committee is to be held to-morrow (Friday) evening in Mr Rountree's Rooms, Castlecliff. commencing at 8 o'clock. Mr C. L. Russell is definitely announced as a candidate for Lyttelton at the forthcoming general" election, and C. M. Gray for Christchurch North.
