Amongst the latest callers at the office of i:he High Commissioner for New Zealand at London wore Messrs F. G. Kersley and W. R. G. Thomson, of Wanganui.

After a lengthy absence, Mr John Prouse, Wellington's well-known baritone singer, returned to Wellington on Wednesday night, accompanied by Mrs Prouse and their son and daughter, Mr George and Miss Constance Prouse.

Mr and Mrs Cowern, of Hawera, left for England on Wednesday. - The death is announced of Mr Powell, a former resident of Palmerston, but more recently of Bunnythorpe, where his death took place. Mr Powell left England in 1876, and on arrival in Palmerston commenced business as a builder and contractor. Fourteen years ago he retired from business and engaged in farming pursuits at Bunny tli orpe. Mr Arthur H. Adams, at pne time on the staff of the Evening Post, arrived in Wellington by the .Mokoia on Wednesday, after three and a half years' endeavour in London. While there his "Tussock Land," a novel with a New Zealand theme,' and "The Nazarene," were published, besides numerous magazine stories, articles, poems and' playa. He has returned to New Zealand to gather material for another novel with a Maoriland setting". He will probably remain six mouths in the colony — possibly .a year.
