ORAUGHTS CHALLENGE SHIELD.

The match last night, twelve a-side, four games each, between Aramoho and Cosmopolitan draughts teams resulted in one of the closest and most- exciting finishes that has taken place during the season. As the returns of completed games were handed in to Mr Beadle, of the T.Y.M.I. -Club, who acted -as referee, it was a regui lar see-saw, first one club and then the i other having the advantage. At 10 o'clock 1 most of the. games were finished, the result being 23 all. Supper partaken of, ii was found the two brothers J. and W. Brown (Cosmopolitan) who played ' A. Ewiug and R. Harrison (Aramoho), numbers one and^two boards respectively, had still a ganie-^each- to play. Ewing, with the possibl.3 to his credit of the three games already played, and W. Brown •'with two to Harrison's one, gave the stiburban club a slight advantage, c• It was fully expected. Ewing would .win for Aramoho, Cosmopolitan relying on W. Brown to notch a similar victory for them. Great interest centred in both, games, which resulted in J. Browji beating Ewing, Harrison again equalising matters . by winning from his,, opponent. Hearty applause greeted' the conclusion of each game. The President, Mr G. S,priggens, Jin congratulating Aramolio, said he had no idea such excitement could be experienced as that evinced by -the members that night. Mr Bridges replied on behalf of Aramoho. thus terminating a most enjoyable evening's pastime. The following are the full scores: —
