AMUSEMENTS. MEETINGS, ETC

The usual weekly meeting of the Boys' Empire League will be held at Duigan's Buildings this evening at 7.30 o'clock.

A social is to be held in the Westmcre HalJ, under the auspicesVif the Presbyterian Church to-morrow evening.

Those interested are reminded of the meeting to be held in Sheriff's, Studio this evening at eight o'clock to consider the proposal to hold walking competitions amongst all tradespeople observing the Thursday half-holiday.

Tlie first of this year's winter lectures in connection with the Public Museum will be held in the Museum Hall on Friday evening next,- when Mr W. Gray, M.A., B.Se., will occupy the platform, taking as Ms subject "Tha Essays of Elia." Considering the great interest which has in the past been taken in these popular lectures, there should be a large attendance, especially as Mr Gray is particularly well qualified to speak on such a subject. '

There was a good attendance' at tho T.Y.M.I. concert and social, the gymnasium room being well filled. A short programme was submitted, after which games were indulged in. During the evening refreshments were handed round. The Rev* J. G. Chapman presided. The following contributed to the programme: — Pianoforte solo, Miss Allomes; song, 3lr Carlyle; recitation, Mr G. Pownall; song, Miss M. Barssett; violin duet, the Misses Bringezu ; song, ,Miss V. Arthur ; clarionet r solo, Mr C. Wixcey. Miss Allomes acted as accompanist. ' ,
