HUNTING.

By "Tally Ho."

The club could not very well have had a worte day than last Saturday for their meet, which took place at Mr Allan Cameron's a steady' downpour of rain setting in before mid-day, continuing incessantly until sunset, preventing what would have been an almost record gathering, as Marangai is always considered a popular rendezvous. However,, about twenty straight followers turned out, with a sprinkling of onlookers, amongst them some ladios, who showed a considerable amount of pluck in braving the elements, and under the unfavourable conditions a comparatively enjoyable day was spent. Throwing off in the home paddocks, we drew blank in two, lopped two gorse fences, then tried- the gullies, where wo soon secured a kill. Crossing over d wire the pack soon "gave tongue, and "hard forrard" was tho cry, _and away we went for an enjoyable spin round a large paddock, towards' 1 Lamb Hill, but lost in the rushes and running water. Drawing the cover at the creek, they got on to the scent of a strong puss, which took us over a wire, a big gorse — emptying 1 one saddle — doubled across the cieek, ! over another wire, and. away over the- long paddock again, losing at the far end. Crossing the road • 'double of gorse, with I barbsd wire on top, wo got another run | towards the Union Line, over into Mr Towgood's, taking two or three g'orsc and a wire, where the pack got on to faulty SCCHt, the liarea being too nirnierotss in tho thick covfct on the sandhills, so after pottering around' for a while in the heavy rain, we lopped the gorse hedge on to the road and betook, ourselves to the sliel.ter of tho house, where- our hostess welcomed us with her usual hospitality, having iv tempting spread for the inner wa.it-s of tlio cold hungry hunters and guotts, which was extremely acceptable. Mr Nixon then asked Mr and Mrs Cumovon tr> accept our heartfelt giatitude for to ting us so hospitably again this year, and with - three rousing, cheers we all, with wet, heavy garments, but. light heaits, dispersed i'or bom'e, having had a wet bui enjoyable outing.
