August 19 is fixed as the date for the Canterbury-Otago match here. In order that trial matches may be begun early, it has been decided to close the Senior championship on July 15.

A correspondent signing himself "Subscriber" writes as follows to our football scribe: — "I hear Kaierau are going to alter their 'team considerably since the reverse they met with in the Pirate match. Well, I wish them luck; but would advise them not to make a mess of their clinking junior team. I would Suiter, the crack junior* winger, .should be put up, anVTHogan prut iri the pack. Suiter onlywants encouragement, as he plays a splendid, dashy game, and does not give half, or I may, say quarter, the free kicks Hoganjdjoes for off-side play. It would be a great mistake to take the junior lock, as it would mean destruction to their pack. So be careful, Claude, and don't make any mistakes at so critical a time.
