AUCKLAND, February 6.

Particulars of the Russell fatality are meagre. A boat containing Mrs, Bertha Marshall (the wife of Mr George Marshall, publican), Mr John. Culley (of. the -"Bay of Islands coal mine), his daughter, -Miss Cissie Culley, all of Kawakawa, and Messrs Frederick and Gilbert Goodhue and Enoch Doel (of Taumarere), capsized in a squall in the bay at appoint- between Brampton buoy and Tapeka Point. Mrs Marshall and Mr and Miss Culley were drowned before assistance could reach them. The three other occupants of the boat were rescued by a party of Maoris, who happened to be in the vicinity in another boat.

Mrs Marshall's body is the only one y so far recovered.
