The Department of Industries and Coin ! merce has received the following- cable <*ram from the- Agent-General, dated Lou Son, 14fli:— The weather continues unlay ourable to the meat provision niarkets am the trade in mutton is very disappointing there being only a very limited demand. The market is decidedly weaker and price are slightly lower. The lamb market ha; been unfavourably affected by the lov prices ruling for mutton. The average pnci . to-day for Canterbury brands is 4jd. brands other than Canterbury 4|d ,to.4i}d There is scarcely any demand for -beef am quotations are nominal. The average price to-day for hindquarters of New Zealand beef is 3£d to 3|d, fores 2£d to 2|d. The supplies of American chilled beef arc heavy a)rid offering at low prices. The but ter market is quiet, with a tendency in favour of buyers. The average price for choic est New Zealand butter to-day is 106s pei cwt. Stored butter is irregular in price and slow of sale,. Danish has fallen to 116s. The Turakina's shipment of the new sea son's New Zealand butter is on the market. The cheese market is steady but without animation — Canadian 53s to 54s per cwt. The hemp market is firmer and spot quotations for good, fair Wellington grade, and for shipments up to March next, are ,£3l 10s per ton.
