SACRED CONCERT NEXT SUNDAY EVENING.
By special request another concert will bo given on Sunday evening in the Opera Hou&e, Ihe programme will be the same, with flic . exception that, the "Boccaccio March" and "In Coonland" will be eliminated. Mr Neverman will sing "Nazareth," and Mr J. G. Swan will recite '"In the Signal Box" (by G. R. Sims).
Mr W. H. G. Foster has generously donated a. cheque for .£1 Is, and the Band wish to thank him and those who assisted at the concert.
It is announced by a "wanted known" that the usual fortnightly- dances held in the Aramoho Tea Gardens on Wednesdays will terminate with a "long night" on Wednesday, 30th inst.
Members of the Wanganui Orchestral Club are asked to note that there will not Tl3 a practice of the club to-nighty and that the local in this morning's Chronicle, stating the' practice would be held, was an error.
The Biorama season at the Drill Hall concluded last evening, when Major and Mrs Perry were again favoured with a large and appreciative audience. A splendid programme was put on.
Inter-trade football matches are much in vogua at present, and the latest phaao of this athletic movement is a match between the drapers and grocers, wliich will take place ou the Recreation Ground at 3 o'clock to-morrow afternoon. The public are cordially invited to attend. No charge will be made for admission. It is expected that teams are in earnest and will be out for victory to-morrow afternoon.
Under the auspices of St. Paul's Guild, the Rev. Arthur Dewdney delivered an appreciation on Tennyson last evening. TJho rev. gentleman held the audience absorbed throughout with an eloquent eulogiuni on the poet, to whom, more than any other poet, he was indebted for intellectual and moral teaching and profit. The recitation of several extracts was especially 'fine.
A lecture, which i 3 well worth hearing, will bo given this evening in St. Paul's Hall. The subject is "Mission Work Among Our Soidiers in India," and the lecturer is the now celebrated Mr N. Daunefaerd, of the Soldiers' Mission, Poona, India. Mr and Mrs Dannefaerd \ft?nt out from Auckland in 1897, and have for 8h& years been successfully conducting mission work among the soldiers. They have now returned to? New Zealand on furlough, and bring with them numerous highly complimentary testimonials to the good- they have done. The lecture is mainly a recital, well illustrated by limelight viewa and exceedingly interesting.
The Very Rev. Dr Kennedy, president of the Mcanee Seminary (at Napier), is to deliver one of his scientific lectures, with limelight views, in St. Mary's Hall on Tuesday evening next, 29th. The subject — "Mysteries of Pond Life Manifested" — is full of practical interest for all classes. Dr Kennedy's lectures on -this and other cognat= subjects, given in Napier, Wellington, Christchurch, Sreymouth, Palmerston, and other places, have elicited the highest praiscß, and always prove an intellectual treat. Dr Kennedy will arrive in Wanganni on Saturday and preach in St. Mary's on Sunday evening. JL)r Kennedy, who Is a member of the Napier Philosophical Society, and has his own observatory fitted up to date, intends visiting the local observatory.
