OLD AGE PENSIONS.

Important Decision.

OPer United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., September 21. Mr Thomson, S.M.,- has cancelled the pension held by, Mrs Charlotte Foster. At tlie inquiry it appeared % that her husband, at the beginning of 1902, had £1600 in cash; To prevent the money being squandered, the family arranged a settlement - by which Foster and his wife received £72 each, yearly; on the decease of both the money to be distributed among the children. The S.M. held that if the fund . had been free from trust and settlement,

neither of them would have received

pension, and the case therefore came under section- 8, sub-section 9, of the Act of 1898, and that applicant indirectly deprived herself of property in order to qualify for a pension.
