AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS. ETC.

GARRISON BAND CONCERT.

{ ' -- , TUESDAY EVENING NEXT.

At. the above concert Bandmaster Buckley will play the cornet solo "Tancredi," being an • arrangement of airs' from lloseini's well-known opera. During his career as a player Mr Buckley has won five gold medals, including the championship of Australasia, with this solo, so it may be takes: for- granted^ that 1 he plays it well. It is a lovely solo, very elassicail, with an immense range. Top C's are plentiful, and in the brilliant cadenza at the finish a top D occurs and is always sounded clear and true by the champion. This solo is a really attractive item.-. Tho characteristic American fantasia "In Coonland," is a unique composition. It ' lias a singing and whistling chorus, and the effects produced include "The Dance of the Coons," "The Darkies' Jubilee," the cornet solo "Lulu," finishing with a dashiner gallop. The bandsmen fairly enjoy this selection, and it forms a nice , contrast to- tho heavier compositions. At the special request of! the Christchurch citizens, the Band will give' "ono concert in the Canterbury Hall on Friday, October 2nd. Mrs 1 Gower-Burns (soprano) and Mr A. Millar (baes) have consented toi assist.

A meetinor of the Wanganui River Trust will bo held in the Borough Council Chambers on Wednesday next.

'. A meeting of shareholders of the" Pa.tea Poultry Company is to be h<»ld on Tuesday nest to consider art offer for the goodwill of the Company's property.
