S.- "Osbdrne" ■.Moderator of the Taranaki Presbytery) preached aind . presided. There were also present — Rev. Bertram (who was Moderator of the charge ' during the vacancy), Rev. Philip, ,of Manaia' (clerk), Rev. Lewis Patea.), and Rev. Ryburn (Wanganui). ["he ceremony was. solemn and impressive, The President's' address was from the ■vords "The Battle is not ours, but jod's."' 'During the service the Rev. Philip addressed the minister and the Rev. Bertram the congregation. At the conclusion, the newly-Inducted minister ivas, according to usual" custom, introduced at the door of the church to the members of the church by the Rev. Bertram- and Mr Macfarlane, senr. ,(elder). In the evening 'a large crowd assembled at the Tow,n Hall to take part in the soiree, the first portion of which was a public tea, in connection with wh^ch' the Waverley ladies maintained their high reputation as .mistresses of* the culinary art. Tlie laHies'who presided and assisted were as follows: — Mrs and Miss Macfarlane : Mrs Johnston and Miss McLean ; Misses Houston and Jolmstone; Mrs Dickie and Miss Elmslie^ Misses Clark and J. • Cheyne ; Mrs and Miss Ehnslie ; Misses Bourne and Howie; 1 Mesdames W. Howie apid J,. Riddell; Misses Davis and Cheyne. After two relays had bees protfided and' everyone satisfied the room was arranged for , the concert. T?he ReV. Bertram presided until ho had x introduced the Rev. .', White, after which the latter gentletuain took the .ctatir." But- he promised his "best" and .if--.'4jhc congregation responded with their, he felt that much would be accomjilisliwr'in the cause. they all had at hoaj*fe *' Interesting speeches were also given byyfite Revs. Osbdrne aihd Philip,' whilst . apologies for. absence were read, from the Rev# (Stratford) aiui Ryburn (Wanga^ui)'. ' The musical portion of the < programme was greatly strengthened- .s&■•.-&■ -number of choruses and amthems by^ the, choir, under the conductorship of Mir James Catanach, and it will not- be mit '<Jf .place to compliment the congregation .'on possessing such -a fine body- of singers. The items all through were without doubt most creditably given. Miss 1 Taylor presided at tho orsfani. .The vocal items, ' too, • were well selected and helped to make up a most enjoyable musical evening. Th<* items and contributions were: — Sonsr, "Song of Sloep," Miss Howie; son?, "The Carnival," Miss Day; song, "Alone on the Raft," 'Miss Clark; ','Calvary," Mr Fraser; duet, "ExcejOsijp,?," Misses Buckman; sonar, Miss "Taylor ; feong, "Ora Pro' Nobis,"- 'Mlas Buckman : " tripy "I will lay Mo down" in Peace." Mrarid tho, Misses Taylor; song. "My Hand, is on th^ Door," Mr r Catanach. A ' brass inKtfu'-mfcntal quartette by four members of the Wrwerley Band was" also much' 'appreciated: /At the conclusion, votes of thanks were accorded by acclamation to the speakers, on the motion of Mr .
