STATE COAL MINING.
Satisfactory Progress.
Annual Report-
(From Our Parliamentary Special. — By
Telegraph.)
WELLINGTON, September 18.
The report on the working of the State coal mines discloses rather a vague proBpect for the Point Elizabeth mine, but the vagueness has been supplemented by good discoveries announced since llie report was drawn up. The report concludes by mentioning that the development work is being pushed forward rapidly, that the amount- of coal to be sent away depends on the completion of the railway line, and that it will be twelve months before coal can be sent off regularly. In the Seddonville mine there is a considerable area of coal separated by a fault from the burning area. By the end of September a small quantity of coal will be sent away, and the qviantity will be gradually increased as the mine is opened. Out of the ,£150,000 authorised, .£52,000 has been raised. Of this sum .£39,423 has been spent — .£7497 on the Seddonville, and .£4024' 0n the Point Elizabeth mine; .£21,000 on the purchase of v the Point Elizabeth railway, and .£6901 on its equipment, leaving cash in hand .£12,576, of which £ 10,000 .is in the hands of the Agent-General.
