' O .• Conviction of Publican Successfully Appealed Against. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHTJRCH, August 19. I« banco to-day, Judge Denniahon allowed the appeal against the conviction ofv the,, Stipendiary Magistrate for a publican having supplied two men who had ridden 7£ miles with drinks on a Sunday. The men admitted they had ridden from Ncjv Brighton for a drink, but thia was not known to the publican. The Judge, said ■ lie could • not sec why the men who ejioae a 'Sujpdiiy evening to rake a bicycle ride of 7& miJea.and^bsKsk' and before xetii'rning c^U at a publichousc for ajdsmall glass' of shandygaff are to be presumed to have, done bo 'merely .because they • desired to ■go to the - publichouse and obtaindrink.' ■ The .Judge was also of opinion that the publican believed the men wete boiia-- fide travellers, and -took reasonable precautions. '
