, (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, . August 18. There are slight indications of the weather clearing, although a southerly gale still continues to blow with force. For 7* months of the present year 40.15 inches of rain have fallen as against 38.75 inches for the whole of last year. The washout on the Government railway at'Mungaroa will take come days to repair and will have to be bridged. GISBORNE, August 18. A native named Wi Wipapa was drowned in the Waiapu River yesterday afternoon by being swept off 'his horse by the flooded stream. The heaviest seas known for many years are to-day breaking on the East Coast.
