FARMERS' UNION.
Wanganui Branch.
The usual quarterly meeting of the Waugauui branch of the Farmers' Union was held on Saturday afternoon, Mr It. Neilson presidiug. FINANCES.— The secretary (Mr J. H. Burnett) informed the meeting as to the finances and position of the branch, showing that there was a small debit balance. ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION.— TIic Chairman reported that it had been decided to raise the annual subscription to 7s 6d in order to make up the deficit which occurred last year. He hoped that members would make an effort to increase the membership and so place the Wanganui branch on a more influential footing. NEW MEMBERS.— Messrs A. Gosncll, C. Sommervillc, and F. E. Chamberlain were elected members of the Union. VETERINARY SURGEON.— A circular was received from the Feilding branch in reference to the appointment of a veterinary surgeon for the district between \thc Otaki and Wanganui -livers, the surgeon to also act as organising secretary. It was pointed out that in order to provide tho salary ,£400) it would be necessary to raise each member's subs-riptioii by 7s or 10s. II was doeidod to hold the matter over J till next mooting. . j RESIGNATION.— TIic resignation of ( Mr " J. H. Burnett as secretary was accepted with very deep regret, members stating that the branch were sustaining a great loss. It was resolved that Mr J. J. Rubscll "be appointed secretary, vice Mr Burnett. CLUB HOUSE.— Tho question of obtaining a piece of land on which to eTe.ct a Farmers' Club House was brought up by Mr Hunter, and it was resolved, after discussion, that a deputation consisting of Messrs Neilson, Campbell, D. Peat, Craig, Russell, Burnett, and Hunter wait upon the Borough Council and. urge the granting, of a suitable H piMje of ,Jand on which to erect a building- f\s<_ariners to meet in, transact business, etc.
IMPROVEMENT OF BREED OF HORSES. — A circular was read from the tjepartment of Agriculture, enclosing a Jraft of the Stud Bill, and asking for the Union's opinion. — It was decided not to express an on the matter, the question bciug too important to be dealt with by a small meeting. * RAETIHI-PAR APAR A . ROAD.— White seveVarineinbers spoke of the importance of this road, stating that it would be- of great service to Wanganui, it was decided not to take any action in Ihe matter. NOXTOTTS WEEDS AND STOCK INSPECTORS. — Mr A._Hmiter spoke in very fllrong 'terms "against the system of what he -termed persecution going on under the Acts, alleging that there had been wholonale. condemnation of healthy stock, and loss and hardship resulting therefrom to farmers. — The Chairman several times-re-ferred' to Mr Hunter's remarks an rather top strong. — Messrs ' Campbell'.
