The box plan for the above season, commencing at the Opera House on Thursday, was* opened at H. I. Jones , and Son's yesterday, when a large number of seats had already been secured.? T^he season promises, to. be a, most successful one, and Mr Hickards should not be afrajd of his venture yinv in sending the company to Wanga-; mil. Tiie - Aiigtralian^ press have sang 1 tlie praises of" Hill and Silvainey, who eomG with a great reputatidn, their Australian engagements .proving a far. bigger draw than Mr Rickards' last venture with the "mighty Sandow." Their act is said to be a" wonderful performance. Hill takes a bicycle wheel to the top of a steep staircase, and, without handle-bars, rides down at full speed, carrying nis wife on liis shoulders. This is only one of the sensational feats accomplished by these clever artists. They claim to do more tricks on one wheel than the best performers previously Been can do on the perfect machine. Messrs Seeley and West, Gracie Emmett, Frances Grey, Ben J. Mills, Le Roy, Wimmer, Mr Wallace Brownlow, Miss Flo Barnes, Bert Bradley, Miss 3V£adge Thomas and 'Eileen. Gape comprise ti\e company. A complete change of programme is announced for each evening during the season, which commenoes next Thursday.
The Irish Rifles intend holding a social and dance in the Fire Brigade Station on Friday, 19th inst., dancing to commence at 8 p.m.
Tb-morrow evening the Eastown Variety Company will give an entertainment in the A.B.C. Hall on behalf of a family in distress, and it is confidently expected that the building will be packed. The object should appeal to all; and, further, an excellent entertainment is assured.
The skating rink will be open again tomorrow afternoon and evening, when a large attendance of skaters .and learners is expected. by. the business the Company are doing up the line, skating is, going to be the king of winter sport. There will be a special class for ladies on Wednesday afternoon, when ladies will receive every attention from the instructor.
The Wanganui Hunt Club's "meet" on Saturday at Mr J. Blair's, "Rapanui," was largely attended, and a really excellent afternoon's sport resulted, the spectators being' awarded with a fine exhibition of > jumping. The Misses Blair • kindly provided te%and refreshments.
The public meeting at the Salvation Army Barracks last evening in connection with the social work of the organisation was largely attended. Mr W. G. Bassett presided, and addresses were delivered by Adjutant Foster, Mr H. Eyre-Kenny, SIM., Mr R. Tucker, Mr E. N. Liffiton, and Adjutant Fleming.
