A deputation representing all the local bodies waited- on £>ir Joseph" Ward~this - morninn; to 'tirj»e tho necessity of tho Government improving the moans of communication by land, and sea with Wairoa, with a view to the opening-up of the Waikaremoaila to tdurist 'traffic.
Sir JO3. Ward, in reply, said he recognised the tourist resopts as one of the most valuable assets of the colony, and the Government were doing their utmost to develop them. At tho same time \t must treat each district fairly, and keep* within the bounds of reasonable expenditure. He" promised to do all in his power to accede to the wishes of the deputation.
