GEEYMOUTH, June 8.

The following statement has been made by Dr J. Mason to the Hon. Sir J. Cr. Ward regardiner his alleged statement- re the iglandfi; ;"Be the statement alleged to have been made by me concerning Cook Islands, appearing in to-day's Times and leader in the Evening Post, I have not expressed any opinion nor given anyone authority to use my name in connection with any opinion I may have formed as to the resources of the islands. I havg asked both newspapers f o «ay that they have no authority for using my name, and both papers have agreed to my request. There is no foundation, for tlK* statement at all, and I have not even won a reporter."
