Manaia Hack Race Meeting.

The Manaia IT.ick Race Meeting was held on Prince ot Wales' Birthday, in Mr J. D. Mitchell's paddock. The weather was fine, but cold. There was a good attendance, variously estimated at from ]0()f) to 1200. There was no totalisator, but the speculating public had plenty of opportunity to back their fancy, their being several bookmakers on the ground, who did a considerable amount of business. About t £U) was taken at the saddling paddock gate, and bookmakers' fees totalled dC4S. Results. —

Flying Handicap.— Recoil 1, Little Turk 2, Starlight 3. Siandra and Opaeae were scratched. Won easily. Time, 1.21}. A protest was entered against Recoil on the ground of running inside a post, but was dismissed.

Hurdle Race. — Capture 1, Puanga 2, Welshman 3. Highlow and Starlight also ran. Won by a length. Highlow ran off at the third hurdle. .Time,'3min llsecs.

Maiden Plate..— Picklow 1, Flying GWrd 2, Horopito 3. Also ran — Hawera, Vacillate, Criterion, Aureole, Novel, Ngatoro, and Tukua. A fine race between the placed horses, Picklow winning uitder the whip by half a length. Time, 56 4-ssecs. Manaia Handicap — Recoil 1, Little Turk 2, Highlow 3. ANo ran — Capture and Imagination. Recoil won by a length under punishment. Time. Imin 54 4-ssecs. Farmers' Plate. — Boomerang 1, Cutwater 2, Spitzkop 3. Other starters : Ohorere, Tauekaba, Gyp. Won by ten lengths. Time, 2min. l-ssec.'

Publicans' Purse. — Picklow 1, Aureole 2, Horopits 3. Other starters : Ngatoro, Criterion. Novel, and Imagination. Won easily. Time, Imin. 10 l-ssec.

Forced Handicap. — Boomerang 1, Little Turk 2, Recoil 3. Picklow and Captive were scratched. One of the best races of the day. Won on the post ; Recoil a good third. Time lniin. 42.2-ssee..
