WANGANUI COUNTY COUNCIL.

The usual nfonthly meeting of tho above i was commence^ at noon to-day, when there ! were present — Cjrs. R. Neilson (chairman), | J. E. Wilson, H. M. Speed, A. Higgie, Thos. Higgie, F. Kurth, D. .Mason, and E. B. Fletcher. ' ' ' • FINANCE.— A debit balance ,of £583 11s 8d was reported, and accounts to the amount of JflHo wore passed for payment. MATARAWA ROAD.— Mr R. Garrett, the County engineer, waited on the Council to lay before it a rough plan of the road to connect Okoia with Matarawa. UPOKONGARO FERRY.*— In answer to questions, the chairman estimated that the cpst of erecting the overhead wire at # Upokongaro was about 36150. On the motion of Or Fletcher, theiclerlorae instructed to' prepare a table Bhowing" the cost of the wire. , . > HEAO B^IDG-E.— It ,was m,ove y d by thfi chairman,, that if Mr McDonald vontribu'-e d£2so,the Council .proceed to build the Heao Bridge at a cost not to exceed J6500. V — The, motion "was lost on thevbices^ 'The* chairman then moved, that the balance of the loan money, borrowed from the Government for the purpose of assisting in the erection or Jhis and' bther bridges, be returned to the Treasury. — Cr Wilson moved, as -an amendment, that the Audi-tor-Oeneral be aflkod" if the money .to .the credit of the Heao Bridge loan account might "he used»' in painting the bridges which were built out of the same (loan. — The amendment was carried. ' The Council adjourned at- 1.15 for an hour. '
