METHODIST DISTRICT SYNOD.

TIMARU, December 4. .
The Methodist district synod this morning, besides routine business,' passed resolutions expressing a sense of loss sustained by the Methodist Church by the death of Mr Hugh Price-Hughes and sorrow at 1 the death of Dr Parker.
' The synod was in favour of opening public schools with the Lord's Praysr and , Bible-teaching during school hours, with a conscience clause; expressing appreciation of the work' of the Rev. J. A. Luxford as chaplain of the Tenth Contingent ; recording thankfulness to God and gratification at the results'* of the local Option Jioll throughout the colony, and particuarlv' in Canterbury, and appreciation of the labours' of those whose efforts, had Contributed to that result; recording thankfulness for blessings upon the Torry- . Alexander mission, and their belief that the'result of the local option poll in some measure was due to their mission; urging the Government to cease to give legal sanction to the gambling evil through the totalisator; and that the Gdveruor be respectfully urged not to accede to a request' to allow the sale of liquor in Cook Islands. <
