UPPER WANGAEHU ROAD BOAR
A meeting was held at Mangamahu on June 7th, 1902, when there were S resent — Mr Manning (chairman)/ and Cessrs Kennedy, Todd, Whiteman, and Farley. The bank certificate was laid on the taule, showing as follows— General Account, Dr, £363 5s 2d;Loan Account, Cr, £393 18s Bd. CORRESPONDENCE. The following letters were received: From MrJ.Xacey, on behalf of Bey. Dean Kirk, .asking for use of office for purpose of holding Divine service on specified Sundays, which will not dash with other denominations. — Application gianted. From! Mr J, T. Shaw, drawing the Board's attention to the number of gates on the River Boad (eleven of them), and asking that the Board will order their removal. — No action taken. From the Hon. the Acting-Premier, in reply to the Board's letter asking that the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1901, be so amended as to permit" of its borrowing money for the purpose of erecting butter factory and creameries, stating titat the matter is already under the consideration of the Cabinet. — Received. "' . From .the Wanganui Education Board, stating that the Conlmisßloner of Crown Lands informs it that provision, for a- -site for a school, will be made in tbevMangaitiahu Township Reserve as soon as a surveyor is available, and asking that the Beard will allow its office to continue to be used as a school in the meantime. — Granted. From the Chief Engineer of Roads, ,Land>, stating that the Land Board had approved of the Board's proposal to expend a portion of accrued Bangiwaea thirds on culverts on road to Karioi, provided they are on the road line.— Beceived. From Mr Bosenbach, stating that he had no interest in Mr J. L. Cooper's 'contract on Hales 1 Boad. — Beceived. From the Patea County Council, enclosiiig cheque for JEI Is 9d, Vsing licensing expenses illegnllj collected, M ruled dj me Supreme court.— The Clerk stated that he had forwarded a claim for all payments made, by the Board, as they had been paid under protest. ' / From the Chief Eengineer of Bonds, ,-re Hales', Boad extension to the Turakina River Boad, stating that the Boad Surveyor, Wanganui, had reported that tile work itf.a desirable one, and has been noted for' consideration in framing the estimates for the coming year. — Received. - From the Boad Surveyor, Wanganui, re vote of £60 for Slippery Creek bridge (Buanui district), stating that instructions had been given to put the work in hand. — Beceived. From the Boad Surveyor, vtfanganui, enclosing:' tracing: showing approximately* the position of proposed Adomson's— Buanui— Turakina Boad and Crown land adjacent. — Beceived. From the Boad Surveyor, Wanganui, enclosing tracing showing proposed Government line, and that proposed by Mr Ledward for Adamson's-Buanui— Turakina" Boad, with grades, levels, etc— Beceived. , - Jfrom Mr D. Ledward, in reply to the Board's letter on the subject of Adamson's-Buanui-Turakina Boad. — After discussion, it was resolved that consideration be held over to next meeting, and that in the meantime the clerk ascertain if the Government will legalise the line proposed by Mr Ledward in the event of the Board deciding to adopt it. ' • '■ ■ . GENERAL. ACCRUED THIRDS.— A large schedule of accrued thirds was received, and the clerk was instructed to make proposals for the expenditure of same. ADDENBROOXE'S LOAN.— The Clerk stated that he had made application for a. look of £125 under the "Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1901" towards a bridge to connect Mr S. Addenbrooke's property with the Wangaehu Valley Boad. TENDERS. — Mr A. McCallum's tender of £327 for road formation on the Wangaehu Valley Bosd was accepted. Mr C. W. Wilson waited on the Board with regard to the proposal to give a portion of his property on Hales' Boad in exchange for the present Stock Reserve, occupied by him. Resolved that the Board offer no objection to the exchange, Mr Wilson having expressed his willingness 'to fell S acres, grass, fence, and subdivide the same, and that the Clerk write to the Commissioner of Crown Lands to that effect. Be the proposed Adamson-Buanui-Turakina Boad loan of £1500, Mr Wilson'expressed the willingness of himself and brother to join with the other Hales* Boad settlers in the- proposed special rating area. '■- An account of £15 17s was received! from Mr H. E. Addenbrooke, a claim for royalty on gravel said surface damage Resolved that the claim of £1 for surface damage be' paid but that the Board canot entertain • the charge for gravel. Resolved that Mr Kennedy be authorised to arrange for the expenditure of the £50 allocated for the sheen bridge to connect the Wangaehu Valley Road with Mf Whiteman's property. Resolved that Mr Skinner be given charge of a portion of the Main, Halea' and ttiver Roads, 7 miles in eacfi direction from Mangamahu. A number of accounts were' passed for payment and the meeting closed.
