Arrangements for Local Celebrations.

Members of the procession sub-com-mittee are reminded of the meeting in Mr Swan's office at 4.15 to-morrow afternoon. ■> ' Members of the general committee .are also reminded of the usual weekly 'meeting on Thursday evening, and as 'there are many important matters yet to be arranged it is trusted that there will be a full attendance. ' The Aramoho residents, evincing their usnal loyalty, are, arranging for a celegration of their own previous to joining in the town festivities, and from what can, be gathered it will certainly redound to their credit. The lads who are representing the 17th Lancets in the town procession, to the number of 24, mounted on their ponies, marched down town in sections of fours on Saturday afternoon, under the comamnd of Captain Burnett and Lieut. Baddelcy, and -halted in front of Messrs G. D. Jones and Co.'s establishment in Ridgway Street. They dismounted in sections and were measured for their uniforms, after which they 'again marched out of the crowded thoroughfares and were dismissed. The .measuring for the uniforms was carried out with considerable celerity. As far as the boys were concerned, their orderly demeanour and discipline, and 'the quiet manner ' in which they I handled their ponies, everything was iof a distinctly creditable character. It was mentioned in a previous issue that the member for the district was arranging with the Government for the illumination of the Post-office. The following letter in this connection has been received:— "Sir,— ln re your interview asking that arrangements be made so that your Council could provide an electrical display on the tower of the new Post-office at Wanganui on the occasion of the above-mentioned celebrations, I beg to inform you that the Resident Engineer at Hunterville has been instructed to have the necessary connections run between the Opera House and -the Post Office accordingly. —I am, etc., Wm. Hall-Jones, Ministerfor Public Works." It is somewhat unfortunate that through a misunderstanding as to the letting of dates, the Open House is engaged for the evening of the Coronation celebrations, 'and although telegrams have passed, the date is held by the Company. What was thought would be an excellent electrical display cannot therefore be carried out, for it would be impossible under the circumstances to effect the connections with any degree of power while the Opera Housa w life up. Tt© new Po»t Office building will therefore be illumina-ted with laaterns, etc., and probably transsparencies.. ■ • Those desirous of Joining in the- procession* with, tableaux an asked to comi municate with Mr J. G. Swan or Mr C. V. Powell, at their respective offices. The Dairymen are about to hold * meeting to consider in what form they shall be represented in the procession. Amongst the tableaux promised is one repreuenting Priestley's Vaudeville Entertainers.
