NAPIER HIGH SCHOOL
Appointment ot Mr E. W.
Andrews'** First Assistant • . Master. (By Telegraph). (Special to "Herald.") NAPIER, June 9. Mr E. W. Andrews, of the WanganuiCollegiate School, was to-day /elected first Assistant master of the Napier High School. fP.-r United Press Association.! NAPIER, June 10. Mr J. E. Bannister, previously appointed second master of the Boys' High School, having declined to accept the position, the Board have appointed Mr E. W. Andrews, of the Wanganui College, to fill the. vacancy. , Mr E. W. Andrews has been associated with the Wanganui - Collegiate School for the past fourteen years, he having arrived here direct from the Old Country to take, up his duties in that institution. His interest in the education of the pupils under his control has only been rivalled by a similar desire that they should, outside scholastic work, indulge in those many youthful recreations and out-door games fitting them to take, part in the future in whatever they may be called upon to engage in. Thus it is that he has spared none . of 'his leisure moments either in coaching the pupils in solving many a difficult problem to assist them in becoming proficient as scholars, or to lead the way in indicating how healthful are out-door recreations to work in harmony with more sedentary employment. The positions Mr Andrews has occupied are of a varied nature — lay 'reader of the Anglican Church, also member and secretary of the Vestry of Christ Church; lieutenant in the Royal Irish Rifles, a ' member of the Public Library Committee,- and a great enthusiast in the promotion of the Wanganui Museum, an ardent .supporter of all out-door games, and in such healthful recreations as swim- ' ming, etc. It was in different capacities connected with the above (and 'many others) that his ability and energy were brought into such 'prominence in many 'good works. Whilst much regretting that he is leaving Wanganui with its many friends and weli-wishers,',Napier may be, assured that it will gain not only a scholar and a gentleman, but also a townsman who ! will do his utmost to advance its interests.
