In the Hous* of Commons' debate on th* Army Estimates the Hon. St. John Brodrick said that after the crisis had passed probably it would be necessary to retain 15,000 regular troops in South Africa. Mr Robertson, member for Dundee, in commenting on the colonies' wish that the war should be fought to the bitter end, hoped that the Government would not -follow Mr Chamberlain's example and grovel at the feet of the colonies. He asked, would the colonies bear pne-fifth of the cost of the war. Tke Bon. St. John Beodride disdained a reply, but said he was confident Mr Chamberlain wonld not meet the Premiers of the colonies in such, a spirit. They would never forget the exceptional services the colonies had rendered without pressure or invitation. Rimington's column discovered in a cave near Reitc 300,000 rounds of Martini ammunition, 10,000 Lee-Metford cartridges, 100 sheik and fuses, one Maxim, two heliographs, and quantities of miscellaneous stores. It is believed to be De Wet's reserve. Since the 4th inst. 35 prisoners have been captured at Reita. Two irregulars, convicted by- courtmartial of shooting surrendered Boers, were shot at Pretoria.
