' The tender of tho Barrowfield Company, Glasgow, has been accepted by the Borough Council for the gasworks plant. The price is .£2820.

This afternoon a trial of speed took place on the river between the launches May and Wai-iti, the course being from the river wharf to tho railway bridge, with the result that the May proved successful, beating her opponent by about 200 yards. The May is owned by Mr J. C. Nixon, and was buill at Castlecliff by Mr J. O'Neill.

At a meeting of delegates held at the Borough Council Chambers to-day, Mrs Marguerite Williamson, Messrs T. B. Williams, ~ and James - Richardson (Marton) were elected to represent the combined boroughs of Wanganui and Marton on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. Messrs W., Ritchie and H. Hole were re-elected by the Waitotera County Council, and Mr James Laird by tho Rangitikei County Council.
