Exhibition of Arts and Crafts
' The exhibition of arts' and crafts in the Assembly Rooms continues to b< well patronised, and last evening there was a large attendance, including the Collegiate School pupils. The programme last evening included songs bj Miss Wifford and Messrs Lennard Prouse, Richings, and Hathcrly, a violin solo by master Lennard, a trio bj Messrs Hemus (violin), Spackmai (piano), and Master Spackman (violin), and a violin duet by the Messrs Claudir and Violet Price. Tea was dispensed by Mcsdamcs Babbage, Christie, and Hutton, assisted by Misses Brewer and NcVcombe. In the centro of the hall in this exhibition Mr Drew has a largo glasscase filled with beautiful gold anc silver work, which deserves special at tention. This gentleman has the satisfaction of placing on his case a notice stating that "each .article exhibited hai been designed and manufactured in hit workshops in Wanganui. These article! will bear the closest scrutiny, and show a delicacy of finish seldom seen ii colonial work. We notice, also, a bold ness and originality of design that wil compare favourably with the produc tions of older countries. There ar< many beautiful exhibits of the jewel ler'B-art, whicli are not only interesting in themselves, but show the excellence of Wanganui workmanship, and we may fairly compliment Mr Drew on hit capital display. Those of our readers who have noi visited the exhibition should make i point of attending, as it is well worth] of patronage, as included in the exhibits are pictures by the leading artists of the colony, as also beautiful specimens of handicraft. We are asked to remind the public that the art union will close on Tuesday evening at i o'clock. On account of the unsettled weothei last night, Alexander (the Australian Blondin) did not give his gymnastic and Blondin exhibition in Cook's Gardens. The performance will take place to-night at eight o'clock. It was decided at a meeting of builders and contractors last evening to form an association, and to obtain copies oi rules from the four centres. A. . subcommittee was formed to submit jules, etc., at a meeting to bo held, of which due notice will be given. Tho Wanganui Horticultur il Society's Spring Show, which will bo held at the Drill Hall on Wednesday next, promises to be a decided improv^.uent on anything of its kind previously held in Wangnnui. Tho secretary informs us that he is now kept busy taking entries and has already 'received a large number. Ample room will be provided for the dinner-table decorations, an, exhibition well worth the entrance fee, proof of which there was at the Agricultural Show on Thursday last. The ladies of Wanganui certainly show excellent taste in the art of floral decorations. '
