Canterbury Wool Sales.

(Per United Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, November 22.

The first wool sale of the season commenced yesterday, 4314 bales being catalogued, mostly small farmers' wool and most in a very dray, earthy condition. Owing to the unfavourable season, the selection was one of the poorest ever offered in Christchurch. There was a large attendance of fellmongers and representatives of the woollen mills, but no Home buyers. Most of the fine wool, was taken for local manufacturing purposes, and there .was some outside speculation in. half-breds. Prices were quite as good as expected, but showed a decline of Id for "medium to 2d for inferior, as compared with the opening sale of last year. During the forenoon greasy merino sold at 5Jd and 7Jd; half-breds, 3Jd to 7d; and crossbrods, 2§d and 5Jd.
