GENERAL SIR HECTOR MACDONALD.

HAWERA, November 6.

Sir Hector Macdonanld received an enthusiastic welcome here, en route to New Plymouth. The Mayor and Borough Councillors and the President and members of the Caledonian Society, received the General, who inspected the cadets and volunteers. Mayor and the-, president of the Caledonian Society made short speeches of welcome, and the latter, on behalf of a lady admirer, presented General Sir Hector Macdonald with a spray of Heather from Scotland. Sir Hector briefly replied. Hearty cheers were^ given, and as the train pulled out the band played "Auld Lang Syne." People from many parts of the district took part in the reception.
