WELLINGTON, October 29;
Further particulars "of the Shannon tragedy show that the 'young 'woman who was the victim was an adopted daughter of Hobbs, her ' name being Ethel Cameron. For some time past she had been staying with a step-son of deceased — a baker, named Cayle, at Shannon. Deceased was in Palmerston yesterday, and it is stated he purchased a revolver there. He returned by tho evening's train to Shannon, haying -tea on the dining car, when he appeared to be in^his usual, spirits. It is stated that a quarrel took place between the man and tho girl when they met last evening, but tfie shooting "did not take place till after 7 this morning, when the man went to his-step-son's house and produced a revolver and began firing at Miss Cameron, shots taking effect, in her arms, right hand, and side. Deceased then, without hesitation, turned • the weapon to himself and fired, the bullet going through Jhi3 l.cart and killing him instantly. Ethel Cameron was brought to Palmerston by this morning's "train and taken to',the hospital. She is in a critical condition.-
