LONDON, October 28.
The. Hon. Mr Reid, in an eloquent speech, said the Ministry had given adhesion to a tariff, not federal, but in favour of Victoria. The conduct of the Federal Government reeked of political treachery, and would raise an opposition which would ring right through Australia. Mr Reid says he was prepared to get along with a revenue of eight instead of nine millions, and would not mind placing a tariff of fifteen per cent, on luxuries. As to the necessaries of life, he thought they were able to manage with an ad valorem duty of seven aud half per cent., with a big free list.
