Ballarat's Golden Jubilee.
The golden jubilee of Ballarat occurred on Sunday, Ist September. It was oh this date in 1861 that gold was first discovered in Ballarat! at Golden Point, now a populous" neighbourhood, situate east or the-'Yarrowce, within the boundaries of the town. It is computed that up to date, 31st August, 1901, Ballarat, from shallow and deep sinking has produced gold valued at £74,828,806. In honouring its golden jubilee, Ballarat can look back-with pride at the marked progress it has made as one of the meat important centres of the .flourishing State of Vie- 7 toria —a beautiful and pretentious centre, with a population numbering over 40,000 souls. For many years it has been a great industrial centre, whose foundries, woollen and other factories, have, apart from its extensive .'goldproducing and agricultural undertakings, afforded employment to thousands of hands. {
