Dredging.
Revesting to -the matter of dredging, I another subject introduced by our cor-1 respondent, a rather good suggestionj was thrown out" by "Watchful" in last evening's issue. He blames the Har-, bour Board for wasting the money of the ratepayers by their methods of hand-shovelling, and suggests that the Board build proper- punts -and call for tenders for the whole job, giving the contractors the use of the plant. The suggestion is a good one, and we trust the B"oard may see its way* to give effect to it. Whether the work could be done in "a third of the time and at "half the present cost we are not in a position to say, but we verily believe there would be -more general' satisfaction and a considerable saving of money to the Board if tho 'work were done by contract. It would; of course, be to the interests of the contractors to have the work done speedily, and" they would no jloubt take, lull advantage of all favourable weather," working long hours to * complete jfc._ ~ ■ i
