FRENCH CONVICTS IN THE SOUTH SEAS.

. Received July 23, 9.18 a.m. MELBOURNE, July 23. Dr Paton interviewed Mr Barton and voiced 'his fears in reference to France's intention of sending a large number of convicts to the New Hebrides. Mr Barton reiterated the assurance that a watchful eye is being kept on all matters pertaining to the South Sea, and quietened his fears with regard to the importation of convicts.
