FANCY DRESS BALL

A good number of ladies and gentlemen responded to tho invitation of the Mayor, and attondod tho meeting lost evening in thejßorough Council Chambers, called to consider matters in connection with the proposed ball in aid of the Victoria Ward funds/

It was decided, after discussion, that tho original .' idea of ' Having a fancy dress ball, be 'adhered to, a masquerade ball not "meeting: with popular favour. Tho question of introducing novoltios was discussed. ■ Mr Hall suggested two sets- of "posters," and a procession of English' monarehs from William the Conqueror to .the present day, and Mrs Williamson thought a "Dickens" ball would bo interesting, tho characters to rcprcsont various, characters in Dickens works. , ,» 1 Messrs Gibbons and Hall were suL- ' sequently to- endeavour to arrange a '"pQster'\ ball. Mrs Williamson reported that a good numbqr of donations food, etc., had been promised fqr the supper, and tho. Committee could guarantee something good in that respect.' They, howevor, would bo pleased to receivo further assistance as sufficient was not yet forthcoming. ' ' Mrs MoNeill offered to supply the Committee with milk or cream, an offer which was gratefully accepted. It was decided that the ball should commence at 8.30. Messrs Hv Tilley, Riohings, nnd C. L. Dymock' -were appointed Ms.C. It was ' decided that the secretary should make inquiries in Wellington as to fancy costumes, and that if any could bo procured, to notify the fact in the local press.
