Immediately he,, grasped with horror the; .situation, and with a superhuman ,effort he gripped ±he handles tighter end 'swerved the machine to one side, out of danger. Passers-hy stood horrified, expecting an awful calamity.- But when they recognised that tho machine was one of the famous Red Birds, they again breathed freely, and acknowledged the superiority of that particular make of Bicycle over all others, aud whilst complimenting him upon his marvellous escape, one and all emphatically expressed the opinion that Red Birds had proved, beyond all doubt, that they are absolutely before- all others in durability and strength.
