TITLES FOR NEW ZEALANDERS.

Rumours have originated in Auckland (soys the Times) as to the New Zealand politicians and others likely to bo made the recipients of distinctions at the hands of the Crown during the present Royal visit. Some of tho statements made arc absurd enough. For example, no mention whatever is made of any decoration or other reward for the Premier, while it is unthinkable that the sturdy ex-Minister for Lands should be induced to accept the C.M.G.^ decoration, or that Mr Cadman, now absent in England, should be selected for similar distinction at this juncture. It is probable that tho Hon J. G. Ward will be the recipient of a Knighthood — ' the K.C.M.G. decoration usually bestowed upon prominent colonial statesmen. A more likely selection for honour than any of the others named would have been Dr J. Logan Campbell, whose munificent gift to the people of Auckland, convoyed through H.R.H. tho Duke of Cornwall and York, entitles him to suoh_ distinction aB Royalty can bestow. It is, however, altogether premature to attempt to pick tho probable recipients of honours. Of course, if the Premier is not Knighted, it will be beoause he chooses, as some statesmen of wider fame havo done, to remain "my friend, Mr Seddon," to the end of Ins public career. It is anticipated that a Royal Court will be constituted in Wellington next week, when the investiture of Sir H. J. Miller, Speaker of the Legislative Council, will take place; and on ,that occasion other honors will be conferred, to be followed by the formal investiture with tho decorations.
