THE TAIER ADVOCATE.

i On the Ist of the current month' onr ['contemporary, the , Taleri Advocate. ! celebrated its entrance on-the 21st year of its existence, on which fact we tender our hearty congratulations. In an amusing article on the subject the editor says: — "

During onr twenty yeara'.journalistic 1 experiences here we iave -made, many Swarm "friends, who have "stood hy the I paper since the first Say it wob printed. We ' have mad~e our ' enemies likewise. A paper cannot bo run on honest lines without making enemies.' "Stop my paper!" is « command with which we aTO quite familiar. We hope Jko Ret a lofmore' of those, orders yet. When they coming- ,in we shall .think that we must, fro neglecting our duties. "One consohuqp ia that when one man stop* hii paper Jthere is always some, one ready to fill the pap." Our old friend who never subscribes a penny, hut who is the. first to borrow, and then, condemns it, is, still to the front;. All. /beings hnveJa.'sltoM;* an- v tipatby .to" something ' br'sorttebody ; we 1 confess to' .an .inextinguishable antipathy to, the _cl«ss of -being we are referring to. 'It appears to us the "height of meanness and ingratitude to regularly borrow the paper to rend thp local news, and then -just as regularly declare the paper to be. worthless. Yet these 'same peoplo arc the first to rush i to our reporter ~to give them n puff j if they have a prise pier at the Show. ' or beg of him to -keep their naire our of the nnper if they are implicated, with a Court case.

Barring the "borrowing fiend," we feel pretty well at peace with mankind, and are prepared to go on battling for the district, for its whole length and breadth. Our best wishes to our subscribers and supporters, and even to those 'who don't suoport us; excepting once more tho "borrowing fiend." Wo cannot be reconciled to him. If we meet him in tho happy land, and we happen to- be still in the newspaper line, we shall keep on slnting him with untiring energy and delight.
