, The following is tbe text of the address which the Yorkshire Society of Wellington is to present to the Duke of York on behalf of the Yorkshiremen of No. w. Zealand:— . . , " • • "It "is with feelings of the deepest pleasure that, as representatives of tho 1 Yorkshire Society, of New Zealand, wo tender to' you on behalf -of its members their cordial and hearty welcome to the capital city of the colony. In common ,with our fellow-citizens, we would respectfully ask jour Boyal Highness to accept our High appreciation of the deep and gracious interest. which your Boyal Highness has not hesitated to express in the welfare and happiness of the people, who, in this and other colonies, are striving to bear an'-hon-ourable part in building up and sustaining the prosperity of these farremoved dependencies of the great Empire to which it is our proudest boast as dutiful and loyal subjects to belong. We are gratified to know that it ia the earnest desire of your Boyal Highness to link into indissoluble ties those bonds of loyal devotion and unity with the revered country whose history and traditions we proudly claim to inherit. While as loyal citizens we are gratified to extend to your Boyal Highness our welcome, to New Zealand as descendants and representatives of th« great County whose name you bear, we are especially pleased to be permitted to welcome your Boyal Highness. No other English County, we think, has won 'or jnherits * fairer fame than the broadacred Shire of York. " For -nearly six centuries it has been linked with the fortunes of England's Crown.' and its Boyal emblem — the pale and maiden blossom of the rose — still flourishes to claim its ancient lineage, and preserve the traditions of its sturdy sons. Wo view with pride a history that is not forgotten in England's .life, and we would ask your Royal Highness to. beJieve . that- the spirit of loyalty which has characterised our forefathers in the days gone by has suffered no diminution with the lapse of time. 'We join with our fellow colonists in the hope i that the visit of your Boval Highness and your Boyal and gracious wife to these lands may be filled with interest <and pleasure, and we trust that under | Divine Providence your voyage -Homo may be accomplished in peace and' safety."
