TAGE GARDENS.

During the last few years there have been a great number of- residences erected in and around Wanganui, and ■ as it is a recognised fact that a nice garden adds very considerably not only to the value of the place but to its appearance, it may not be out' of place to give the amateur some idea of what is desirable to plant. ' ' ■*" When an evergreen hedge is required, the English laurel, with, its nice glossy green foliage, and Escallonia Macrantha, dark green leaves and bright scarlet flowers, -are both good and hardy, and stand trimming well. In the garden proper it is desireable to plant a few good, roses, the sweetscented daphnes, diosmas, boronias, and also a couple of good heaths, Erica Ventricssa, E. ~ Charsleyatta, and -E. Mamosa are Very good, the Genista Andreana.or scarlet Broom, one Or two bright rhododendrons,., aialeas, and peonies, aita a lew, choice* cactuS danlias for autumn flowering, also a cabbage tree or Eulalia Zebriza, a graceful ornamental grass, which always has a light appearance in the garden. Smaller growing plants, such as dielytra, camations,narpissus, and' other bulbs, etc., as fancy may direct. For -larger gardens a- wider, selection may. bo obtained, imd .Messrs' L'Sird and Sons, the well-known local nurserymen, cordially invite' all interested in plant; ing to come and inspect the varied stock: - , - .
