ROSES.

SOME GOOD- VARIETIES.

Although roses may be removed any time from May to the end of August, early autumn planting is recommended. If planted early, roots are emitted at once, and the plants become established right away, and the ensuing season a fair crop of blooms may be expected. The lists of roses catalogued by nurseryman are to the tyro" so bewildering that he finds it to hia advantage to leave tho selection of kinds to the grower. But the buyer often prefers independent opinions'-as to the most desirable kinds he should order. The kinds we are abont to mention are particularly'good, and their names were selected from the excellent stands of blooms exhibited by Messrs' Laird and Sons at the last Spring Show. ■ Among the best may be montioned,' Mrs J. Laing, a superb pink . variety; Margaret Dickson, white, with .'pale flesh centre; Captain Hayward, bright car■mine crimson; Gustavo Piganean, rich, dark lake;,Victor~Hugo, brilliant dark crimson, very fine; Sir Robert Stout, a distinct crimson; John Bright, intense scarlet; Helen Keller, lovely rich pink; Antoine Revoire, almost pure white, suffused delicate peach; Bessie Brown, creamy white, lovely; Mamon Cochet, suffused- salmon yellow, very fine; Mrs W. J. 1 Grant, imperial pink, a rare colour; Caroline- Testout, bright satin rose; Gloire "Lyonaise, white, tinged with pink; Cloth of Gold, pure yellow; Kaiserine Augusta Victoria, pure white, with, creamy centre; Persian Yellow is very fine in colour; and Austrian Copper Briar, single, is particularly handsome.
