THE HOLMWOOD ESTATE.

SOME PARTICULARS' CONCERNING A FIRST-CLASS PROPERTY.

In these days of insatiable landhunger, when what arc generally termed desirable freehold acreages are largely snapped up by the many who haveimch iaith.in the still further piosperity of tha Wnnganui district, 'it may be interesting to those who are thinking of making future homes, for themselves and families to learn some particulars regarding the 'Holmwood Estate, to bo sold by public auction by Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co. on Saturday, the 34th of November. The situation, on. No. 1 Line, is about 2 J- 'miles from the Wanganui Post Office, and on Hearing the estate it is at once noticeable the forethought dictating the laying out of a roadj Winding through the different sections, and of such an easy grade that one hardly notices the rise until some of the emin^ ences aro reached. Standing On one of the many beautiful knolls there is displayed to view a Beries of pano-' ramie pictures which at once delight tho senses, nnd altogether are of a most charming nature. Tho eyo takes in glimpses of ocean, river, lake, and mountain in kajiedoscopic array, all beautiful in their way, and yet but adjuncts to what is almost at one's feet. Lovely patches of primeval bush" are dotted throughout the. low-lying land) and gradually rising to the cleared spaces thero is every indication of the fertility of the soil on the uplands, together with tho prolific growth of grass. No matter which way oue turns there is some particular spot that suggests ownership with v sions of a bagnt and cheeif'il homestead, with tho happy laughter of the littlo ones gambolling at play, or returning from tho schoolhouse close handy, and, above all, there is the solid fact that within such a short distance of a busy commercial centre is a place absolutely in tho country. To further particularise on the 180 aerca to bo subm tted, it may be mentioned that the estate has been very well laid out into thirty-two sections, varying from one to thirty!iv" acres, each* and every ono having its own specialities to supply the dc? mands of prospective buyers. Thus thero are the smaller areas for the ordinary dwelling, larger ones for tho more pretentious family residence, and larger I oncß still, where homeliness and comfort may be combined witn fruit-srow-ing, gardening, and, indeed, those irany pursuits of the industrious which havo added, and are still helping to- add, to our well-being nnd commercial prosperity. To still further particularise the sale, a lithographic plan of the estate is issued with the "Herald" this evening, and no doubt many a covetous eye will take in the. advantages of annexation, more especially as the terms have been made very easy to, suit all classes of the community. To take a stroll or a drive or a ride out to the Holmwood Estate during a spare hour or so will be attended with pleasure, and remembering that the road is fully formed a chain wide, with 16ft formation, and is now being gravelled, makes the journey anything but the inconvenience so often associated with newly cut-up blocks offered for publio competition. We understand that tho auctineers have been approached on many sides to quote for certain sections, but, as they very properly remark, the eyes are not to be taken outof tho estate in that manner, that public auction must settle the, matter of future ownership, and in view of such demand there Bhould be keen competition.
