PERISHED IN THE SNOW. (fly Flectric Telegraph— Copyrights (Per United Press A?sociation.l Received August 23, at 9.40 a.m. HOBART, August 23 Two men perished in the snow at Mount Arrowsmith. SUDDEN DEATH AT A SOCIAL. (Por United Presu" Association.) NAPIER, August 22. A Roman Catholic social at the Gaiety Thcatro was brought to a- sudden closo this evening by a most unfortunate incident. Mrs Turley, a middle-aged woman from Greymouth, who was on a visit to her married daughter, Mrs Mcßryde, was present, and suddenly dropped down dead. A SERIOUS QUARREL. AUCKLAND, August 22. A telegram from Mangonui states that at Fairburn, Captain Rogers fired three shots at Mr W. A. Gardiner, one shot taking, effect. The wound is not serious. Rogers is said to have taken poison afterwards. The parties were rival carriers, and jealousy is said to be tho cause of the quarrel.
