UPPER WANGAEHU ROAD BOARD
The usual monthly meeting of the Upper Wangaehu Road Board was held at Mangamahu on July 6th, 1900, when there were present — Messrs Lilburn (in the chair), Kelhck, Lewis, Cranstone, Kennedy, and Mannington. Correspondence — The following letters were received: — From the Secretary to the Treasury, stating that the Board's application for a loan of £700 for metaling from Kauangaroa to Mangamahu had been approved of; from the Wanganui County Council, stating that the ratepayers residing in the Waimarino district were desirous of forming the northern portion of the county into a new county, and as this would include a portion of the Upper Wangaehu Road District, the Council wishes to obtain tho Board's view with respect thereto. —Resolved that this Board is opposed to the formation of any new county that includes any portion of this Road District. From the manager of the Bank of New South Wales, inquiring the amount of revenue received by the Board for the year ending March 31st, 1900, aud also what would be required for tho current year.— Clerk instructed to furnish information asked for. Thirds arid Fourths— A schedule of accrued thirds and fourths to 30th April, 1900, was received, amongst them beiii" the following . —Hales' Road, .£l7l 2s lid; Turakina Valley Road, .£33 11s lid ; Wangaehu Talley Road East, .£ll 7s 3d; Wangaehu Valley Road West (township), £13 6s 6d; Morgan's thirds, ,£B9 16s; Harper's Road, jEll 10s 6d ; Koutukutuku Valley Road, il2 5s 2d ; S.G. Run 21 (D. G. Polson's). J3 4s Id. A letter was received fiom the Telegraph Department regarding the proposed telephone connection with xvangaiiui, stating that a guarantee of £V> per annum for five years, paid m advance, would bo required for direct connection.—Resolved that, provided a guarantee is signed by tbo settlers for the amount required by the Telegraph Department, the Board advance the money. r _, , Tho chairman renortod that Mr Polson had expressed his willingness to
give and undertake to make over the road to connect with Okirae when called on, and he moved that Mr Kellick be 1 deputed to arrange with Mr Poison regarding the fencing. A number of accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting closed.
