FIRE AT BALCLUTHA.

DUNEDIN, May 14.
A fire at Balclutha yesterday morning completely destroyed a block of wooden buildings in the centre of the town, comprising McLeod's (draper), Fruist's (tobacconist), and the old Criterion Hotel. The firo originated in McLeod's. Fruist's and McLeod's shops arc owned by tho Hallensteins, and tho hotel by Mclntire, Miller's Flat. The insurances are- — Hallenstein,unknown ; old hotel, £IJ}O in the Royal. John McDonnell, lessee of the latter, saved the bulk of his furniture. He estimates his loss at He was uninsured. McLood's stock was insured for .£SOO in the Phoenix, Fruist's, valued at .£3OO, was uninsured.
