THE SIEGE OF MAFEKING.

(Capo Times Special Correspondent.) MAFEKING, March 6. For the eighth time the Boers have changed the position of their siege gun. On Friday night they removed it to its old emplacement to the south-east. Saturday they established a rceord in the matter of shelling, discharging 36 ninety-four pounders right off the reel. They mado splendid practice, but we killed their gunner, and so 1 they have not fired since. A fresh supply of ammunition arrived this morning, and if they can get a fresh lot of gunners they will probably give us more trouble. In the meantime everything is quiet — delightfully quiet, — but this blissful state of repose only lasted from Saturday evening till this morning. Our extreme positions to the southeast have been having an exciting time. I have already told how we have been extending our position in that direction with the greatest success. From our outlying post wo'have cut a sap east by south-east towards a point midway between the enemy's rifle trench and their fort. Tho Boers threw out a counter sap from their main trench, south by south-west, thus cutting ours at right angles. When they had got within 50 yards of our sap tho enemy took to throwing jam tins filled with dynamite into our trenches. Fortunately all these fell short, and our snipers made things so hot for the Dtitchmen that their big gun was brought to play upon as mentioned above.
