Tho Contingent, including 38 for the Hctchkiss battery, numbers 252 officers and men. Each company is slightly abovo strength. It is understood there is some doubt about one of the lieutenants, and that the ultimate choice will rest between him and Lieutenant Todd, who goes as supernumerary. Tho final decision will be mado at the Cape. Tho alterations in the officers of No.l Company montioned yesterday as likely, are confirmed, and Captain Hutson takes command, Lioutenant Montgomerio succeeding Jiim. Captain Reid is greatly dissatisfied with his treatment, and lias called upon the Defence Department lor an inquiry. Replying to the request that a representative of tho Christian Soldiers' Association should bo allowed to accompany the contingent, the Premier replied lie is unable lo accede to the request, mas much as the New Zealand Government has the control of the men only during transit, and the British authorities will provide for their spiritual welfaro when in the field.
