DEATH OF WAR CORRESPONDENTS
LONDON, January 16. Mr Mitchell, war correspondent of the Standard, died at Ladysmith from typhoid fever, while Mr Ferrand, correspondent of the Morning Post, was killed during the assault on Ladysmith on tho 6th. [The war correspondent of the Natal Witness, who left Ladysmith on November 25th, and succeeded in getting through the Boer lines without being detected, says: — There was a goodly company of war correspondents cooped up in Ladysmith during the siege. There were Messrs Lionel James, London Times; Steevens, Daily Mail; Pierce, Daily News; McHugh and Falconer, Daily Telegraph; Niverson, Daily Chronicle, Stuart, Morning Post; Maznell, Standard, Smith, Morning Leader, Lynch, Morning Herald; Pott, [south Afnci; D. McDonald, representing the Melbourne Argus. Only two of the Home illustrated papers had artists, namely, the Ehi6trated London News, Mr Melton Prior; and the Graphic, Messrs W. T. Maud and T. McCorinick.]
