PREPARATIONS BEING HURRIED.
LONDON, December 17
Mr Walter Long, president of the Board of Agriculture, speaking at Liverpool, hinted, that tho Cabinet yesterday considered the qxiestion of utilising the militia volunteers abroad.
Ho also described the magnificent patriotism of the colonies, and added that it 100,000 were wanted at the front they would be forthcoming and sent. The Hon. J. Chamberlain is at present on a visit to Dublin.
Tho nowspapers recommend that a hearty welcome bo given to any proposal for further- assistance from the Australasian and Canadian colonies and the wide enrolment of colonial volunte-jfs.
Tho Times commends the generous attitude of New South Wales and the other colonies in sharing tho Motherland's Imperial spirit. • SYDNEY, Decomoer 17
Byrnes, the Now South Wales Lanur who was reported missing in the reo-nt skirmish in the Transvaal, has turned up safely. New South Wales is preparing to send GOO men, Victoria 500, South Australia and Tasmania 100.
The Premier of Tasmania lias wired Premier Lyno that he had nj r.:onnlcd men available.
Half a squadron of the New South Wales Lancers have volunteered. They will include practically the wh Me of Hie men who recently returned from England.
